This is the introduction to the study that accompanies my book MORE THAN SONGS…
The most important book you can ever read is The Holy Bible. To read it simply as a book can impart great wisdom and understanding of the nature of humanity, God, and history. It contains principles for all aspects of life, love, and prosperity.
However, the Bible is far more than a book. It is the revelation of God. He authored all sixty-six books, through yielded servants who faithfully recorded what the Lord told them to write. The words are the power of God released to anyone who seeks to know Him. They are truth. They are eternal. They are universal, and they are personal. God the Holy Spirit teaches, guides, and empowers us through the words of the Bible. God will never contradict Himself or His Word. Studying the Scriptures enriches our relationship with our Heavenly Father. He reveals His mind, heart, and will through His Word. He speaks to all of His creation universally; but also to us individually and personally through illumination of His word to the willing heart and mind of His child. The Holy Bible is truly the Living Word of the living God.
When studied in this light, the Scriptures have the power to transform our lives, making us into the image of God (not that we become gods, but we become His children). Our intellects, no matter how intelligent we may think ourselves to be, do not have the capability to truly comprehend the Word of God. So, as we read the Scriptures, we should pray for God the Holy Ghost to open our eyes to what He is saying to us. I guarantee God will delight in answering this prayer. Therefore, proper Bible study must include prayer.
But, if we read the Bible with understanding, yet it affects no change in our lives,
then we are not really understanding it. We must apply what we read in God’s Word.
Again, He loves to help us in this. The result of applying what God teaches us in His Word is wisdom, strength, peace, purpose, and victory.
“Come now, let us reason together” says the Lord (Isaiah 1:18).
This adult Bible study is a companion to the book More Than Songs. It is divided into twelve sections, each representing the key concept in each chapter of the book. Although it may be beneficial in individual study, it is designed to be used in a group format. Each section will have a main Scripture text, as well as additional references. I recommend reading those as well. You will only benefit from going that extra mile, so don’t skim over them! There will be a brief commentary about the concept addressed. And then the all-important discussion questions.
I pray you will be challenged to go deeper with the Lord.
